ELeather Group has been certified to the Recycled Claim Standard by Control Union Certifications to give assurance to our customers that a number of latest ELeather materials contain a significant portion of recycled leather.
The RCS is used as a chain of custody to track recycled raw materials through the supply chain and is often seen as a validation of the manufacturer’s claims. The standard verifies the presence and amount of recycled material in a final product.
ELeather materials have always been developed and manufactured with the aim to utilise what the leather industry classes as “offcuts” as those usually end up in landfill sites. A significant amount of each leather hide is deemed unusable (due to discolouration, scuff marks, or other minor faults) and discarded. This amounts to thousands of tonnes of waste every year.
At ELeather, we collect those unused parts and transform them into a material suitable for use on anything from an airplane seat to a luxury handbag, shoe, and even a dog collar. Since our engineered leather production began in 2007, and thanks to brands that want to recycle more and waste less, we have recycled over 7,000tonnes of leather (It may not sound much, but it’s the weight of 16 aircrafts Boeing 747-8!)
Our materials contain up to 55% recycled leather and now, thanks to the official RCS Scope Certificate awarded to us by Control Union Certifications, our customers don’t have to just take our word for it! Our current certificate is based on four of our latest products and we’ll be certifying each new one in the future to provide transparency and reassurance.
