Comfort EU

Our Comfort EU is a high-performance range that can be used to cover whole seats or specific high-wear areas, either independently or in conjunction with other materials to create a product that is desirable for you and your customers.

Comfort US

Comfort US is a range of materials that offer all the performance benefits of the EU range but developed specifically to meet the needs of the US market fire regulations.

1. The long-lasting quality

Rail operators and rolling stock OEMs can now offer their passengers an improved travel experience with stylish, durable seats that will retain their luxurious, quality look and feel for every passenger time after time. ELeather’s engineered leather is a longer lasting material made from high quality natural leather fibres and due to controlled stretch, it will maintain its shape and form for longer. It is up to five times more durable than alternative upholstery materials and doesn’t show any signs of bagging or creasing, even after years in service. This results in less frequent refurbishments and subsequent cost savings for operators and rolling stock OEMs, not to mention providing luxurious carriage interiors to impress their customers.

High speed rail operators in particular will benefit from the fact that engineered leather is over 45% lighter than other alternatives improving the overall weight of each seat.

Eleather’s materials are certified to the latest industry standards and rigorously tested in-house and by 3rd party testing organisation to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

2. Easy to work with and maintain

With engineered leather maintaining carriage quality and cleanliness is made easy and only requires regular wiping as opposed to deep chemical or steam cleaning. This guarantees hygienic and pleasant journey every time. Not only that, ELeather material is engineered to for durability meaning it retains its ‘just been crafted’ look for longer to impress consumers even after years in service. Our specification sheets demonstrate that all required industry regulations are met and products have been tested against regional regulations for UK, US and EU.

In terms of seat production, due to the fact that engineered leather is produced on a roll that is consistent (with each roll being tested) in colour and finish seat manufactures can maximise yield and reduce waste and cost in manufacturing. It also makes patterning and cutting easy and reduces further waste.

3. Improving sustainability credentials

Even though rail is experiencing a come back and is said to be one of the most sustainable ways to travel, operators and manufacturers can look at ways of improving their eco-friendly credentials even further by sourcing sustainably produced materials. Production of engineered leather saves thousands of tons of leather waste each year and uses 90% less water when compared to traditional leather. Not only that, thanks to our patented and unique manufacturing process, fibre bonding is achieved using just the power of water without the need for harmful adhesives and the end product doesn’t contain any plastic (PVCs).

By upholstering seats in engineered leather, seat manufacturers can lower their carbon footprint and operators can provide their customers with yet another reason why rail is the future of sustainable travel.

4. Creating well designed interiors

Many travellers opt for rail over alternative modes of transport as it allows them to see the scenery in a relaxed setting whilst being able to stretch their legs and even dine in style – rail travel presents more of an experience compared to other alternatives. For that reason operators are keen to enhance and improve that experience even further by providing well designed carriage and comfortable, clean seats.

Engineered leather is available in over 20 stock colours and variety of finishes on a short, 48 hour lead time meaning quick turn-around projects are not delayed. For those occasions, where the design is more complex ELeather offer bespoke colour matching service – we can match to a physical sample, pantone or virtually any other reference. Not only that, the material is also suitable for a range of secondary processes including printing, laser etching and embossing making it a great choice for both economy and premium class carriages.
